Ramadan Kareem!

Today is the first day of the month of Ramadan--I can already feel the change in the air, at least in my own household, while the rest of my neighborhood goes on. I love this feeling--where my life "stops" so I can take the time to reflect on my own self as well as the plight of those around the world for a whole month, while everyone else continues to live their lives. You know how scientists use air bubbles to determine temperatures at certain periods of time in history? That's how I feel during Ramadan--this is my own air bubble in which I can stop, and reflect (sans my two best friends, food and drink ;). The next couple of pictures feature Muslims from all over the world. Happy Ramadan, everyone.

That's a really interesting way of putting it. I've never known how to quite explain how good the feeling is to people who think, "Oh that's crazy! I could never...I'm glad I don't have to." Nice pictures too!

it's nice to hear the perspective of Muslims during this time. Eid is celebrated where I live as well. Spiritual renewal is a beautiful thing to experience.

happy ramadan to you and your family. :)

Happy Ramadan Sarah! :) I remember how festive Indonesia would be around Ramadan. I used to live there for 10+ years, wish I could go back. I loved it there! Anyway, enjoy Ramadan with your loved ones! <3

Sorry if this a dumb question, as I am not familiar with Ramadan and had to look it up to research it...does this mean you are fasting from dusk until dawn? How difficult is that to do?

Such a lovely post! I'd love to learn a bit more about Ramadan. I remember some peers in high school used to do it, but unfortunately I just don't know too much about it.

I love the way you describe it, though.

I love the praying picture, the very first one. I find it very inspiring to watch people pray and very calming when I, myself pray.
